Training Tuesday #7 how to read schematics

Good afternoon folks welcome to another Training Tuesday this week we will cover reading schematics

Tools or items needed

there are not any tools or items needed

Step one Identifying the components and symbols

Identifying the components and other symbols is key to reading schematics I found a few useful pictures on the internet that I use for reference even now I check back just to be sure here are the pictures .

Step two how are the parts connected

physically parts are connected by wires, in the diagrams you will see black lines going from one part to the next. this means that you connect them with a wire

when the black lines cross in a diagram there are ways of telling whether or not the wires should be connected to each other as shown below.

Step three Polarity matters

some components to a circuit board are polarized, meaning one side is positive and the other is negative. this means you have to attach it in a certain way. for most symbols polarity is included in the symbol. to find out the polarity of the physical part a general rule of thumb is to look for which metal lead wire on the part is longer. this is the + side.

What have we learned

Reading schematics can be hard at first but if you keep the basics in mind you can use this skill to turn a schematic from a drawing into a working circuit this also helps with trouble shooting as well many times I have read a schematic to see that a pcb has been printed wrong

Thanks for taking the time to read this if you liked what you've read then please check back tomorrow after 17.00gmt for another update thanks again. Dobby
